Eligibility

WWMD accepts entries from organizations, as well as individuals.  All those seeking an award
must be able to demonstrate participation in the World Water Monitoring Day program specifically. Individuals affiliated with any member of the awards committee will not be considered.

To enter yourself or your group/organization, please complete the award entry form and send it along with support materials (see guidelines) to:

Previous Applicants

Individuals and groups who entered in the past may enter themselves for consideration again if not previously selected for an award. Application information submitted in prior years will be reviewed by the award committee. Previously submitted supporting materials, such as newspaper clippings and letters, should not be resubmitted.

Guidelines for Support Materials

We encourage you to provide additional information that may be helpful to the award committee, such as letters of support, related articles and press coverage. However, the application package must be no more than 20 single-sided or 10 double-sided pages in total. Brief written descriptions or photographs incorporated into the package (i.e. easily photocopied) should be submitted in lieu of video or audio recordings, books, posters, lengthy articles and reports, or similar materials.

Selection Process

Awardees will be chosen by a subcommittee of the World Water Monitoring Day Regional Panel of Judges, which is comprised of key program sponsors and representatives from the Water Environment Federation, the International Water Association, and other organizations who share clean water goals.

WWMD will award 12 Water Champion awards in March 2011. Awards will be made to one individual and to one group in each of six (6) regions. The six regions, each represented by its own panel of judges, are:

  • Africa (includes portions of the Middle East)
  • Asia (includes portions of the Middle East)
  • Australia & Oceania
  • Europe
  • North America (includes Central America & the Caribbean)
  • South America

Awards and Recognition

Award recipients will receive a commemorative plaque and WWMD materials of their choosing up to a value of US $750 for organizations/groups and US $500 for individuals. Items selected may include any combination of WWMD test kits, t-shirts for future events, posters, or displays.  Other items may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additionally, awardees will be recognized via e-mail blasts, the WWMD website and a press release on March 22, World Water Day.
